R. R. Patil popularly known as “Aba” was born on 16th August 1957 at Village Anjani Taluka Tasgaon of Sangli District in the State of Maharashtra, INDIA. He did his B.A. Honors from Shantiniketan College Sangli and also did his L.L.B. special. Versatile in Marathi, Hindi and English, a farmer and an advocate, in his early political life Shri Patil was Member of Sangli Zillah Parishad from 1979 to 1990.

His public and political activities is spread out from Tasgaon which is his legislative assembly constituency to the whole of Maharashtra. His fast unto death for the social cause of creating sufficient infrastructure to store and use the water of Krishna River Valley project had immense effect on State Government to act. He has major contributions in the cooperative sector also. He was founder Chairman of Kisan Urban Credit Society & also established the Tasgaon farmers sales purchase society, Swami Ramanand Bharat Cooperative Cotton Mill & Tasgaon Taluka Farmers Cooperative Sugar Factory at Turchi, Tasgaon.

He was elected to Maharashtra legislative assembly in 1990, 1995, 1999 & 2004. He was also Chief Whip of Congress Party in assembly. He was also chairman of public account committee of assembly in 1996 - 1997 & 1998 - 1999.

His major milestones:

  • Best Parliamentarian awarded on 22nd December 1996 by Commonwealth Parliamentary Board.
  • Maharashtra Pradesh Nationalist Congress President – 31st March 2003 to 17th December 2004.
  • 26th December 2003 to 31st December 2004 Minister Home Department.
  • 1st November 2004 Deputy Chief Minister & Home Minister Government of Maharashtra.
  • 18th June to 2nd July 2005 in charge Chief Minister.
  • Deputy CM & Home Minister and Minister for Special Assistance upto 3rd December 2008.
  • Currently Maharashtra Pradesh Nationalist Congress President.
